About the product

The Pallu Mutham stripe is one of the traditional Jamakkalam stripe compositions, its name translating to “pearl-like teeth.” When observed closely, its geometry forms a rhythmic alignment resembling a woven smile, a distinctive expression within the Jamakkalam visual language.

As natives of Bhavani Kumarapalayam and representatives of its weaving community, House of Jamakkalam approaches this textile with responsibility. Each product is designed with reference to archival stripe compositions preserved within the region, carried forward with intention.

Made from the GI-tagged Bhavani Jamakkalam, traditionally woven as a durable carpet that lasts for generations, the Smiling Pouch is reimagined in a contemporary form. It is ergonomically designed by keeping two things in mind: the inherent nature of the material, its ability to hold weight, endure wear, and last over time, and ease of everyday use. The result is an heirloom piece shaped for modern life.

This is not revival, it is continuation.

Product Care

Jamakkalam is a dense carpet-weight weave that may naturally attract fine dust or lint; this is characteristic of the material.

* Use a lint roller or soft brush to clean
